JOB DESCRIPTION

The Outdoors Group | Reports to: HR Manager, then into the Head of People & Culture | Mid-level | DBS check required

The role in a nutshell

You'll own how we find, hire and keep great people across The Outdoors Group. This is a job of two halves, getting people through the door is only half the job, keeping them is the other half, so you'll work hand in hand with members of the People & Culture Team, who lead on keeping and growing our people.

Working as part of our Core Services people team, working with hiring managers across the Group, alongside our People & Culture Team and Employer Brand and Internal Comms Officer.

What you'll own

1. Attraction: getting the right people interested

  • Proactively plan and run hiring across all our sites, so we're ahead of need, not chasing it
  • Go out and find people: direct sourcing and social media, referrals, job boards, outreach events and job fairs
  • Build talent pools so we have people ready before roles open
  • Shape our employer brand with the Employer Brand and Comms Officer, so people want to work here
  • Reach a wider mix of people and keep the process fair and open to everyone
  • Work with the HR Manager on pay benchmarking, so our offers land
  • Manage our agency relationships and use them where they genuinely add value

2. Hiring: running a great process

  • Partner with hiring managers to get clear on what good looks like, then write job descriptions and adverts that promote and sell the role
  • Plan and run the process end to end: screening, interviews, selection days and offers
  • Design selection days with senior leaders that show candidates who we really are
  • Give every candidate a good experience, including honest feedback
  • Run internal moves and promotions fairly, in line with our Equal Opportunities Policy
  • Manage pre-employment checks with our Administrator, making sure safer recruitment is done right every time

3. Grow your own and keep them

  • Make sure new starters get a strong start, working with the People team on onboarding
  • Use what People & Culture Team hear from leavers and stayers to sharpen who we hire and how
  • Work with the L&D Officer to build Grow Your Own routes into hard-to-fill roles, like apprenticeships and trainee schemes
  • Track the numbers that matter (time to hire, source of hire, early leavers, turnover) and use them to keep improving
  • Keep up with what's working in talent acquisition and bring fresh ideas to the table

    What you'll bring

    Essential

  • Experience in a recruitment or talent acquisition role, in-house or agency, managing roles from start to finish
  • Confident finding candidates yourself, not just posting adverts and waiting
  • Experience using an applicant tracking system (ATS) or HR system
  • Comfortable with numbers: Excel, tracking your stats and spotting trends
  • Builds strong relationships with managers and isn't afraid to challenge when needed
  • Organised and accurate, happy working remotely and across sites with limited supervision
  • Great communicator, written and spoken, including writing adverts that people actually want to read
  • Committed to fair and inclusive hiring

    Nice to have

  • Employer branding or social media recruitment experience
  • Experience hiring across multiple sites
  • Building talent pools, apprenticeships or early careers schemes
  • Experience working on onboarding, retention or exit insight
  • Managing and monitoring a careers page or website content

The must-dos (every role at TOG)

  • Follow our Safeguarding, GDPR and Health and Safety policies
  • Complete all mandatory training
  • Read and sign policies issued through People HR
  • Live the Outdoors Group values and encourage others to do the same
  • Line management: none
