We are currently seeking a full time Driver and Maintenance Assistant to work at our Chester, WV or East Liverpool campus.
Our Drivers and Maintenance Assistant provide activities of maintaining and repairing physical structures of buildings and maintaining grounds throughout all of The Orchards campuses and transportation of our residents to and from doctors appointments and on outings.
Responsibilities:- Teamwork with the following and all other duties and responsibilities assigned.
- Performs duties such as painting and performing repairs to masonry, woodwork, furnishings, wiring, plumbing, and HVAC in all buildings.
- Adjust work in progress when priority projects change.
- Offers technical assistance when requested.
- Adhere to and maintain organization-wide safety program.
- Assists with the general cleaning, room turnovers, hard floor surfaces, carpeted areas, building entrances, public space, dining rooms, and staff work areas.
- Performs project work such as stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction, spring cleaning and other general cleaning.
- Coordinates workload, and equipment to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Documents information required by federal, state, and local authorities pertaining to the environment of care.
- Is courteous and responsive to the needs of the clients the transportation service and reports any complaints or problems to the supervisor.
- Drive the Orchards authorized vehicles to and from resident doctor appointments, activities, outings, and trips safely in accordance with all traffic laws.
- Follow all safety rules and precautions for boarding and exiting the bus.
- Routinely check bus fluid levels, windshield wipers, lights, and mileage between oil changes to ensure the bus can operate safely and efficiently.
- Report any bus malfunctions to the Maintenance Supervisor or Administrator.
- Operate wheelchair lift safely and effectively.
- Performs ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.
- Creates and maintains relationships with vendors of supplies, parts, and utilities.
- Verifies that items received match those invoiced.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
- Perform minor bus maintenance.
- Keep state inspection up to date.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be at least 25 years of age and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- High School diploma or equivalent and be at least 25 years of age.
- Complete annual state mandated training requirements (Regular In‑services as well as any external training).
- Prior Non‑CDL Truck or Bus Driving Preferred.
- CPR certification and First Aid certification, each requires periodic renewal through re‑certification or continuing education.
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and is frequently required to walk throughout the buildings and grounds of The Orchards.
- The employee must be able to climb or balance on ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl when conducting repairs or assessing the need for repairs and to place items in or get items from low drawers or shelves.
- The employee is regularly required to talk or hear when communicating with clients, family members, staff, and outside business contacts.
- Specific vision abilities are required for driving residents to appointments.
