An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join a long-established, privately owned UK food and farming business at a pivotal stage in its development. With a strong heritage dating back to 1946 and a reputation for quality, innovation and sustainability, this organisation supplies major blue-chip customers across the food manufacturing and retail sectors and is now entering an exciting new phase of growth.

To support this evolution, the business is seeking to appoint a Commercial Finance Director to strengthen commercial insight, investment decision-making and financial leadership at senior level.

The Role

Reporting to ownership and working closely with the CFO and COO, this newly created position will sit at the heart of the business and operate as a true commercial partner. This is not a traditional reporting-led finance role. Instead, it offers the opportunity to influence strategy, shape investment decisions and help drive long‑term value in a hands‑on, owner‑managed environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality commercial and financial analysis to support strategic decisions
  • Leading the evaluation of major capital and infrastructure investments
  • Developing robust financial models, scenarios and business cases
  • Supporting long‑term planning, forecasting and risk assessment
  • Acting as a trusted sounding board to senior leadership and ownership
  • Strengthening financial discipline, governance and accountability
  • Supporting and mentoring the existing finance leadership team

The Opportunity

This role offers genuine scope to make a meaningful impact within a values‑led, growing business that places strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability and long-term thinking. You will work closely with key decision-makers and play a central role in shaping the future direction of the organisation, rather than simply reporting on it.

The Person

This opportunity will suit a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) who is commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable operating in a dynamic, hands‑on environment. We are keen to speak with candidates who fall into one of two profiles:

  • High‑potential senior finance professionals ready to step into their first Finance Director role
  • Established Finance Directors seeking a more influential, commercially focused role within a growing family business

You are likely to demonstrate:

  • Experience in complex, asset‑heavy, manufacturing, food, agriculture or project‑driven environments
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability
  • Confidence working with ambiguity and evolving priorities
  • Credibility with operational and senior stakeholders
  • The ability to balance entrepreneurial thinking with financial discipline
  • A collaborative, grounded and values‑led leadership style
  • Experience working with large customers, tight margins and pricing pressure will be particularly valuable

Why Apply?

  • A rare opportunity to join a respected, privately owned business at a key stage of growth
  • Exposure to major investment and innovation‑led initiatives
  • Close access to ownership and senior decision-makers
  • A role combining strategic influence with hands‑on commercial impact
  • Long‑term career development within a stable, values‑driven organisation
