Job Description
I’m looking for a Temporary Assistant Accountant to provide additional support to my client’s finance team for an initial 1–3 month assignment.
This is a broad role requiring someone comfortable with both transactional finance and month-end accounting, alongside the ability to investigate account entries, identify discrepancies and make corrections where needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Processing and reviewing financial transactions
- Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Investigating unusual or incorrect account entries and identifying the root cause
- Correcting discrepancies and ensuring accounting records are accurate
- Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
- Supporting month-end processes
- Reviewing data and accounts to identify inconsistencies
- Providing general finance support wherever required
About you
We’re looking for someone with a broad, practical accounting background who can hit the ground running.
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar hands-on finance role
- Good working knowledge of both AP and AR
- Practical experience of reconciliations, journals and month-end processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – you’ll be comfortable “unpicking” transactions and investigating where something doesn’t look right
- The confidence to work independently and use your own initiative
- Good Excel and accounting systems experience
- Availability to start at short notice
This role is fully site-based in Peterborough, working full-time hours, and is expected to last between 1 and 3 months.
Pay rate: up to £20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
If you’re immediately available and looking for a varied temporary finance assignment where you can really get stuck in, we’d love to hear from you.
