Interim Financial Controller (Fixed Term Contract) — Mid Essex — Salary: circa £75,000
I am supporting a growing SME business to recruit an experienced Finance Controller on an interim basis to lead the finance function and support the wider business across all financial matters. This is a broad, hands-on role with responsibility for financial control, reporting, compliance and commercial insight, alongside managing and developing a well-established finance team.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the finance team and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support decision-making across the business.
- Leading and managing a finance team of 6, via 2 direct reports, covering AP, AR and financial control.
- Overseeing the month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate balance sheets, P&L and cashflow reporting.
- Developing and enhancing commercial reporting to support sales and marketing performance.
- Supporting the budgeting process and longer-term financial planning.
- Maintaining strong internal controls and compliance, ensuring adherence to local and international standards.
- Managing cashflow, liquidity and banking relationships.
- Supporting the ongoing Sage X3 system development project.
Requirements / Qualifications
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification.
- Proven team management experience (essential).
- Strong background in financial reporting, control and compliance.
- Advanced Excel capability, including complex modelling, pivot tables and lookups/macros.
- Experience within manufacturing, FMCG or stock-based environments, ideally within an SME.
- Strong commercial experience, particularly supporting sales performance and decision-making.
- A hands-on, proactive approach with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
