A broad Internal IT role where you can get involved in far more than day-to-day support. If you enjoy being the person who gets involved with a bit of everything, this could be a great next move. You'll support the technology behind a busy operational site, working across infrastructure, business applications, security and improvement projects rather than being restricted to one particular area of IT. It's particularly suited to someone who has built a good foundation in IT support or infrastructure and now wants greater technical ownership and exposure with a business that has exciting growth plans.

Role Style & Setup

There's plenty of variety. Alongside resolving more complex technical issues, you'll work on servers, Microsoft technologies, networking and business systems, while getting involved in upgrades and wider infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the site's core IT infrastructure, including servers, networking, cloud services and end-user technology
  • Provide technical support for important business applications and work with external suppliers where required
  • Take ownership of more complex incidents and investigate recurring technical problems
  • Get involved in infrastructure upgrades, application deployments, security improvements and cloud projects
  • Help ensure systems are appropriately patched, backed up, monitored and protected
  • Maintain the technical documentation and controls required within a regulated environment

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience across IT Support and some experience providing infrastructure support
  • Good Microsoft knowledge including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
  • Understanding of networking including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs and VLANs
  • Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Good troubleshooting skills across hardware, software and infrastructure
  • Full right to work in the UK
  • Able to commute to Haverhill 4-5 days a week

How to prepare for a job interview at The One Group

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
