We have been appointed by a well renowned client of ours, in the Cambridge area, to find an interim CFO during an integral time in their transformation period. This is a senior CFO role within a defence engineering and manufacturing business at a key point of transformation. Working closely with the CEO and investors, you will lead the finance function, strengthen governance, and provide the financial leadership needed to support growth, complex programmes, and value creation. Strong defence sector experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the CEO, board, and investors as the lead financial advisor
- Lead and develop a global finance function through transformation
- Maintain robust financial control across complex, long-term defence contracts
- Drive cash flow, forecasting, and working capital optimisation
- Lead ERP and finance systems transformation
- Support private equity ownership, investor reporting, and exit readiness
- Contribute to M&A and strategic value creation initiatives
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven CFO or senior finance leadership experience within the defence sector
- Strong understanding of regulated defence environments and long-term programmes
- Experience in private equity or transformation-led businesses
- Track record of ERP and finance system change
- Deep cash flow and working capital expertise in engineering or manufacturing
- Board-level presence and strong stakeholder management skills
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
