I’m supporting a well-established, financially secure manufacturing business with the appointment of an HR Manager for their largest UK site. This is a genuinely operational, hands-on role where you’ll be embedded in the site five days a week, working closely with the Site Director and a management team of around 10. There is a solid foundation in place, but still plenty of scope to shape and make the role your own. You’ll operate as the lead HR presence on site, partnering closely with managers while working collaboratively with the wider UK HR team.
Key areas include:
- Day-to-day employee relations (disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence)
- Coaching managers to confidently handle people matters themselves
- Recruitment across permanent and temporary roles
- Supporting restructuring activity
- Leading and embedding new values across site
- Supporting implementation and optimisation of a new HR system (Oracle, including recruitment module)
- Developing reporting and HR process improvements
- Establishing and owning engagement initiatives, including creating an on-site employee forum
This role requires someone who can work autonomously, juggle multiple priorities, and confidently “hold the fort” whilst knowing when to reach out for support. This position will see you working within:
- A manufacturing setting
- A highly operational environment
- A supportive and coaching-led environment
The Ideal candidate for this role:
- A confident, pragmatic HR generalist
- Comfortable operating in a standalone site role
- Capable in ER and able to coach rather than simply “fix”
- Organised and resilient, able to manage reactive and proactive work simultaneously
- Relationship-builder who can work closely with a strong Site Director
- Open to change and continuous improvement
- CIPD Level 3 minimum (Level 5 desirable). Manufacturing/FMCG exposure would be advantageous.
Package: £45,000–£50,000, 25 days holiday + bank holidays, Pension 5% employee / 5% employer, 37.5 hour week (flexible start/finish within reason), Good work-life balance culture - work your hours, don’t live at work.
Why This Role? If you enjoy being involved in everything, from ER to projects to culture, this is a site you can genuinely shape and have a positive impact. It suits someone who enjoys autonomy, operational impact, and building trusted relationships on the ground.
