Our client is a growing engineering services business based near Oundle and Peterborough, delivering both project-based and ongoing service solutions to customers across a variety of sectors. As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a hands-on Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the business and support the directors in driving future growth. This is a fantastic opportunity for an organised and commercially minded individual who enjoys variety, problem-solving and working closely with customers, suppliers and operational teams.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will sit at the heart of the business, taking responsibility for the smooth running of daily operations. You will oversee the full operational cycle, from initial customer enquiries and scheduling through to project delivery, invoicing and cash collection. This is a highly visible position that offers genuine opportunity to make an impact within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the business, ensuring projects and service work are delivered efficiently.
  • Schedule engineers and subcontractors, ensuring resources are utilised effectively.
  • Support the administration team and maintain smooth operational processes.
  • Monitor invoicing, debtors and cash collection activities.
  • Review cashflow and bank activity, escalating concerns where appropriate.

  • Coordinate larger projects and installations, liaising with engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Oversee purchasing, supplier relationships and stock requirements.
  • Drive process improvements and support the continued growth of the business.
  • Produce operational reports and provide regular updates to the directors.

About You

We are looking for an experienced operations professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within an Operations Manager, Service Manager, Office Manager or Commercial Manager role.
  • Experience within engineering, technical services, manufacturing, construction or another project-based environment.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Experience overseeing scheduling and operational administration.
  • Good commercial awareness and financial understanding.
  • Confidence working closely with directors and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
