This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced embedded software engineer to join a growing datalinks team developing real time communication systems for next generation platforms. You will work at the forefront of over the air communications technology used in advanced defence systems, contributing to the design, development and testing of high integrity embedded software. The role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands on development, problem solving and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to build robust, real-time solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and refine software requirements for datalink communication systems
- Design embedded software architecture for real time applications
- Implement high integrity software in Ada for mission critical components
- Conduct verification activities including reviews, integration and hands on lab testing
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, systems and test engineers to deliver end to end solutions
- Contribute to defining datalink behaviour, protocols and future system capabilities
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Strong experience developing embedded software in Ada
- Background in hard real time systems and low-level embedded development
- Experience working in a lab environment with hardware and test equipment such as oscilloscopes
- Exposure to real time operating systems such as FreeRTOS
Desirable:
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, UART, Ethernet or PCIe
- Experience with UML, model-based design or tools such as IBM Rhapsody
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software boundaries
- Experience with system integration and performance analysis
