Have you ever looked at a product and thought that this will be a nightmare to build at scale?! This is one of those roles where you stop that happening. You can make a difference and you can really make this role your own.
You will be joining a newly created team sitting right at the point where design meets manufacturing. This role is focused on ensuring products move from development into scalable, repeatable production, with a strong focus on manufacturability, quality and robustness.
Working closely with R&D, manufacturing and quality, you will take ownership of the mechanical aspects of NPI. You will be influencing designs early, ensuring they are suitable for manufacture, and preventing poor design from reaching production.
This is a hands-on role working on small, precision-engineered products where tolerances, materials and assembly really matter. You will design tooling, fixtures and jigs, define build processes, and ensure products are robust, reliable and fit for purpose. You will also support builds on the ground, troubleshooting issues, identifying root causes and driving improvements.
The role offers strong visibility across the business and the opportunity to help shape how products are introduced into manufacturing within a collaborative engineering environment.
What you will be doing:
- Reviewing product designs to determine manufacturability and scalability
- Driving DFM and DFA principles throughout the design process
- Designing tooling, fixtures and test equipment
- Supporting products through NPI into scalable, repeatable production
- Defining assembly methods, build processes and production workflows
- Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth transition into manufacturing
- Supporting builds, resolving issues and improving processes in real time
- Ensuring products are robust, reliable and fit for purpose
What do we need from you:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience with 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks)
- Strong understanding of DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, GD&T and material selection
- Ability to create and evaluate 2D technical manufacturing drawings to BS8888
- Experience supporting products through prototype to production transition for low to medium volume products
- Experience creating technical documentation and releasing into a controlled change management system
- Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, moulding, assemblies)
- Experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced engineering environment
- Experience designing jigs, fixtures, tooling, or mechanical test equipment
What can you expect in return?:
~ Competitive salary + benefits package (happy to discuss)
If you are looking for a role where you can add value, improve processes and be part of a team shaping how products move into manufacture, I would be keen to hear from you.
