Are you feeling like just another cog in the machine? If you're looking for a role where you can make an impact, drive improvements, and be valued for your expertise, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
We are looking for a Facilities Manager who thrives in biotech environments, understands the complexities of lab operations, and wants to build something exceptional - not just maintain the status quo.
Why Make the Move?
- Your ideas matter – We are not here to tick boxes; we want fresh thinking to make our labs & facilities run at their best.
- Cutting-edge environment – Work in a state-of-the-art R&D centre at the heart of Cambridge’s science cluster.
- Be a key player, not just a caretaker – This isn’t about passive maintenance; you will lead projects, improve processes, and help shape the future of the facilities.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Overseeing lab & office spaces – Managing building systems, lab infrastructure, and equipment servicing (including CL II hoods, centrifuges, incubators, pipette clinic etc).
- Ensuring compliance & safety as well as working collaboratively with the H & S Manager to conduct audits & inspections.
- Leading a team – Managing a team of Facilities Assistants & Lab Support Technicians, ensuring things like lab consumables & equipment servicing run smoothly.
- Managing vendors & budgets – Securing cost-effective contracts and high service levels.
- Driving sustainability – Implementing energy-saving initiatives and environmental improvements.
- Planning refurbishments & fit-outs – Hands-on involvement in lab/office builds and upgrades.
What We Need From You:
- Facilities management experience in biotech, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences, with lab support expertise covering Hard & Soft Services and managing whole building services, not just in a managed building.
- Demonstrable knowledge of building systems, lab equipment servicing, and compliance (H&S, CD, GMO, HTA licenses).
- Strong leadership skills, able to motivate teams and drive improvements.
- Experience with refurbishments, lab/office fit-outs, and optimising workspaces.
- Practiced in vendor management, budgeting & contract negotiation.
What’s in It for You?
- Competitive salary dependent on experience.
- Discretionary bonus scheme.
- Eligible for grants of restricted stock unit grants.
- 26 days holiday + bank holidays + option to buy more.
- Private medical (for you & your family).
- Cash plan for dental & optical reimbursement.
- Subsidised gym membership & wellbeing initiatives.
- Income protection to cover long term absences due to ill health.
- 4x basic salary life cover.
