This is a hands-on role within a growing technology manufacturing business, where purchasing, planning and supplier management all sit closely together. You will be joining a small, busy supply chain team where attention to detail matters and your work will have a direct impact on keeping materials moving and production on track.
It is not a purely strategic procurement role, and it is not one for someone who wants to be removed from the day-to-day. This would suit someone experienced, organised and practical, who enjoys being close to the detail and likes being the person people can rely on to know what is happening.
This is a small, busy team and you will suit this role if you are organised, friendly, detail-focused and happy to get stuck in. You will probably enjoy this if you like being trusted, being useful and being close enough to the operation to see the impact of what you do.
What you will be doing:
- Managing key supplier accounts
- Scheduling materials to support customer demand
- Ensuring materials are delivered on time
- Raising and managing purchase orders
- Supporting forecasting and materials planning
- Managing supplier push-outs and changes
- Handling invoice queries and quality issues
- Sourcing components where required
- Supporting cost reduction and price negotiation activity
- Helping identify and assess new sources of supply
- Supporting continuous improvement across the supply base
- Managing component obsolescence
- Supporting new product introduction activity where needed
- Working closely with internal teams across the business
What we need from you:
- You will need to be an experienced Buyer, ideally from an electronics, electro-mechanical, mechanical or broader technical manufacturing environment.
- Electronics experience would be particularly useful, especially if you have worked with component availability, obsolescence or international suppliers, but the most important thing is that you understand the pace, detail and pressure that comes with buying in a technical manufacturing business.
- Previous buying, purchasing or supply chain experience within a technical environment
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Good attention to detail
- Confidence managing suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems
- The ability to work at pace and keep on top of multiple priorities
- A practical, hands-on approach
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- A team-focused, collaborative personality
- The ability to work fully onsite
- Willingness to travel internationally on occasion
- CIPS Level 4, or working towards it, would be beneficial, but the right practical experience and attitude are equally important.
What can you expect in return:
- Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 dependent on experience
- Flexible working hours (fully on site role)
- Pension, dental care and healthcare
- Support of staff wellbeing
- Discounted gym membership
- Subsidised Hub on site restaurant
- Large, free car parking on site and electric car charging points
- Social events and activities
If you are an experienced Buyer who enjoys the detail, understands technical supply chains and wants to be part of a business where your work genuinely matters, this could be a great next move. Get in touch to find out more!
