Chef de Partie Kitchen department - The Olympic, Barnes. Reporting to: Head Chef. Contract: This is a zero‑hour employment contract. Your General Manager will discuss this with you during recruitment, such as the hours and days you’d be available to work. Hours per week: Hours vary according to business requirements & your availability, however the standard amount is 40-45 hrs per week. Pay: Total guaranteed rate of £16.50/hr (this is made up of £12.71/hr plus £3.79/hr in guaranteed tronc). Location & address: The Olympic, 117-123 Church Road Barnes, London, SW13 9HL.

The role: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Chef de Partie to join our dynamic culinary team serving our upstairs Members’ Club and ground floor Bistro. You’ll play a key role in the daily operations of the kitchen, supporting the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation, kitchen management and team mentoring. The ideal candidate will be a creative and dedicated individual with a passion for delivering memorable dining experiences.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Working with the Head Chef and the kitchen team to maintain high standards in the quality of food in its flavour, preparation and its presentation.
- Ensuring that each dish is prepared and cooked with quality and pride, according to our standards.
- Working as part of a great team to ensure a smooth and high-quality service in a supportive environment.
- Training, guiding and mentoring other junior chefs (Demi and Commis chefs).
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of the full menu and be able to explain dish descriptions/allergens.
- Ensuring stock is rotated and labelled correctly within your sections.
- Ensure your work areas/spaces are clean at all times.
- Making sure all checklists and cleaning rotas are adhered to.
- Working in all areas of the kitchen depending on the daily needs.
- To observe all Company Food Hygiene and Health and Safety policies in line with required food safety standards.
- To assist the Head Chef to check the completeness of all suppliers’ deliveries and the correctness of their invoices.
- To set out, maintain and monitor high standards of cooking and presentation.
- Ensuring that all completed food is correctly wrapped, labelled, and put in out‑fridge for each event.
- To work closely with Head Chef and other chefs at each event to ensure that the function runs smoothly.
- To liaise and work closely with the Club and Bistro front of house teams.
What we are looking for:
- Sufficient experience as a Chef de Partie or strong Demi Chef de partie experience.
- Relevant food safety certifications (e.g., Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate) are required.
- Excellent knife skills and a keen eye for detail in food presentation.
- Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A supportive and clear leadership style to mentor and manage junior chefs in a supportive environment.
- A strong ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- The ability to attend and undertake all required training.
- Confident communication skills.
- Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
