Oldham College is seeking a Motor Vehicle Technician to provide hands-on technical and operational support within our automotive workshops. This is a practical, workshop-based role supporting tutors and learners during the delivery of motor vehicle and automotive training programmes.

You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, organised, and fully operational motor vehicle workshop, ensuring high standards of Health & Safety compliance while supporting learners to develop industry-relevant skills. This role is ideal for an experienced automotive technician who is passionate about education, mentoring, and supporting the next generation of motor vehicle professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support automotive tutors and learners during practical workshop sessions
  • Maintain workshop vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment to a safe and operational standard
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements, including maintaining electronic risk assessments (Smartlog)
  • Manage workshop resources, stock control, and ordering of parts and consumables
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of practical teaching sessions
  • Support the delivery of employability and work-readiness skills aligned with employer and awarding body requirements
  • Promote a clean, safe, and professional learning environment at all times
About You

You will bring industry experience in motor vehicle or automotive environments, alongside strong organisational skills and a commitment to quality and safety.

Essential requirements include:
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4-9) or equivalent
  • Industry qualifications to Level 2
  • A relevant Health & Safety qualification or willingness to work towards one
  • Experience maintaining vehicles, machinery, and workshop equipment
  • Experience managing stock and workshop resources
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly, including evenings and Saturdays
Desirable:
  • Experience coaching or mentoring young people or adults
  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs or low confidence
