Where You'll Be Working: Our Out of School and Holiday Club is attached to the local school in Bishopthorpe, offering a welcoming space where children can enjoy time with friends before and after the school day. From arts and crafts to outdoor adventures, children have opportunities to get active, try something new, or simply relax. With a home-from-home feel, we encourage creativity, independence, and the freedom to follow their interests. As part of the wider Little Green Rascals setting, our kitchen team prepares fresh, organic food onsite each day for children and staff. We’re also home to Mabel, our nursery dog, who attends two days a week and is training to become a therapy dog for children.

What You'll Be Doing: You’ll support the OOSC Manager with the day-to-day running of our breakfast and after-school club, helping colleagues deliver safe, inclusive, and enjoyable sessions. One moment you might be helping children organise a game or explore a new craft. The next, you could be supporting a colleague, welcoming a family, or making space for a child who needs a quieter afternoon. Your role will include:

  • Supporting and guiding colleagues to provide thoughtful care and engaging play experiences for school-aged children.
  • Helping plan a balance of creative activities, outdoor play, and quieter time around children’s interests.
  • Listening to children’s ideas and giving them meaningful choices about how they spend their time.
  • Supporting children’s wellbeing, independence, and friendships through a warm, consistent approach.
  • Building trusting relationships with parents, carers, and school staff, with clear communication and smooth handovers.
  • Taking responsibility for the club in the OOSC Manager’s absence.
  • Following safeguarding and health and safety procedures, maintaining accurate registers and records, and raising concerns promptly.
  • Creating an inclusive environment that responds to each child’s needs.
  • Sharing feedback and ideas, helping colleagues develop their skills and improve children’s experiences.

Our values are simple: Own it. Be human. Make it happen. As a deputy, that means following through on responsibilities, listening with care, and helping your team turn children’s ideas into shared experiences.

What We’re Looking For: You must hold a Level 3 Early Years qualification or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to be considered for this role. You’ll also bring:

  • An understanding of school-aged children’s needs and the importance of play, choice, and time to relax.
  • The confidence to guide colleagues, lead by example, and take responsibility when needed.
  • A warm, inclusive approach that helps children feel comfortable and valued.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for planning activities alongside children.
  • Good organisation and clear communication with colleagues, families, and school staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining high standards of care.
  • Openness to feedback and a willingness to keep learning.

We’re looking for someone who knows when to bring energy, when to offer reassurance, and when to give children space to follow their own ideas. If you have any questions about the role, our Recruitment Team will be happy to help at recruitment@tosn.co.uk.
