Practice Nurse Manager in Leicester

The Old School Surgery is looking to recruit a Practice Nurse Manager to lead and support the nursing team within our practice. This role provides clinical leadership across the nursing function, helping ensure high standards of patient care while supporting the development of nursing services within the practice, with a hands-on approach and leading by example. Working closely with GP partners and the wider clinical team, the Practice Nurse Manager will oversee the delivery of nursing services including chronic disease management, preventative care and treatment room services. The role will also support the development of clinical processes that help ensure patients receive safe, effective and well-coordinated care.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, partner-led practice serving around 7,500 patients in Stoney Stanton. We are continuing to strengthen how our teams work together to support patient access and communication, supported by systems such as Rapid Health which help direct patients to the most appropriate clinician. We are looking for an experienced nurse who enjoys working collaboratively and who wants to contribute to the continued development of nursing services within the practice.

Main duties of the job

The Practice Nurse Manager will provide leadership and support to the nursing team, with a lead by example mindset, helping ensure the delivery of safe and effective nursing care across the practice. The role includes supporting the organisation and development of nursing services, helping ensure clinical standards are maintained and that nursing care supports the wider needs of the practice population. Working closely with GP partners and the multidisciplinary team, the Practice Nurse Manager will support services such as chronic disease management, preventative care, treatment room services and patient health promotion. The role also involves supporting clinical governance, mentoring nursing staff and contributing to the development of clinical processes that support high-quality patient care.

Job responsibilities

The Old School Surgery is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Practice Nurse Manager to lead and support the nursing team within our well-established, partner-led GP practice. This role combines clinical practice with team leadership, ensuring patients receive high-quality, proactive and well-coordinated nursing care across the practice. The post-holder will support the development of clinical services, contribute to quality improvement and work closely with the GP partners and senior leadership team to maintain excellent standards of patient care. The Practice Nurse Manager will play a key role in ensuring the nursing team works effectively alongside GPs, Healthcare Assistants and the Patient Co-ordinator team, supporting clear communication and smooth patient pathways.

Purpose of the role

The Practice Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership for the nursing team, ensuring that nursing services within the practice are safe, effective and responsive to patient needs. The role supports the delivery of preventative healthcare, long-term condition management and treatment room services while ensuring the nursing team operates efficiently and collaboratively within the wider practice team. The Practice Nurse Manager will contribute to the ongoing development of nursing services, helping the practice respond effectively to evolving healthcare needs.

Clinical responsibilities

The Practice Nurse Manager will deliver the full range of clinical nursing services expected within a modern general practice, working within their professional competence and scope of practice. The role involves managing nursing clinics, supporting patients with long-term conditions, contributing to preventative healthcare services and ensuring patients receive clear advice and support to manage their health. While the specific mix of clinical activity may evolve in order to meet patient need and service development, the Practice Nurse Manager will be expected to maintain a high standard of clinical practice and support the nursing team in doing the same. The post-holder will undertake duties consistent with the professional responsibilities of a Practice Nurse and within their scope of professional competence, leading by example. The practice is particularly keen to strengthen its provision of respiratory care, including the proactive management of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The Practice Nurse Manager will play an important role in supporting the development and delivery of structured respiratory care within the practice, ensuring patients receive high-quality assessment, monitoring and education to support effective long-term condition management.

The Practice Nurse Manager will support the effective functioning of the nursing team by:

• Providing professional leadership and guidance to Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants
• Supporting team development, training and professional growth
• Contributing to workforce planning and rota organisation within the nursing team
• Supporting the induction of new nursing staff

The role will work closely with the GP partners and senior leadership team to ensure nursing services are aligned with practice priorities, whilst being hands-on and leading by example.

Person specification

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Experience working within a primary care setting
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a clinical team
• Strong organisational and communication skills

• Experience supporting or supervising other clinical staff
• Experience contributing to service development or quality improvement
• Familiarity with SystmOne
