Due to continued growth we are looking to recruit 2 Mechanical Technicians to join us at our OFD (Oil Fuel Depot) located at Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute. Working as part of a small maintenance team, these safety critical roles focus on tasks being carried out to high standards of safety to ensure no harm to people or the environment. Predominantly working outside involving manual handling and occasional work within confined spaces, there may be a requirement to travel to other sites or for training, therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential. This role requires candidates to show they are a motivated team player, be willing to be part of a rostered on‑call team and to undertake short‑notice overtime. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of the foundations of health and safety, have a good safety‑conscious record, and maintain high standards of honesty and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned maintenance activities and defect rectification efficiently.
- Report site defects immediately to the Depot Engineer for rectification.
- Complete weekly/monthly preventive maintenance paperwork within agreed time scales with the Depot Engineer.
- Prepare the work area for more complex maintenance of depot systems or components.
- Utilise diagnostic techniques to identify faults in depot systems and components.
- Understand technical drawings, P&ID, isometrics, and general arrangements.
- Have a good understanding of safe systems of works, RAMS, and PTW.
- Review works and produce RAMS to carry out tasks safely.
Candidate Profile
Candidates must be qualified Mechanical Technicians who have completed a recognised Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent, covering subjects such as NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations, NVQ Level 2 (QPE007 – Forming & Assembling Pipework Systems), Level 3 BTEC Mechanical Maintenance, or NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance. They should possess strong working knowledge of rotating and static plant, including tanks, pumps, valves, pipework, oil separators, compressors, and piping systems. Candidates must be medically fit to work in confined spaces, able to use breathing apparatus, collaborative, professional, and computer‑literate with the ability to fill out paperwork accurately and update computer records.
