The role involves responsibility for all reactive and preventative maintenance across a variety of critical equipment, including electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, switch gear, and control systems and instrumentation in respect of EC&I Engineering activities within our OFD (Oil Fuel Depot) at Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute. The successful post holder will ensure that all aspects of work are executed on time and in full compliance with company standards and UK/European legislation, and provide first line maintenance of the BPCS (Basic Process Control System) and associated equipment. Although this role is based at Helensburgh, there may be a requirement on occasions to cover some of our other OFDs located in the UK. With occasional travel and overnight stays, a full (preferably clean) UK driving licence is essential for this role. Overtime may be required during the week and weekends, but is not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
- Providing electrical maintenance activities and technical support for day-to-day operations across the Oil Fuel Depots.
- Troubleshoot assigned electrical maintenance and rectification problems, resolving and documenting any issues.
- Complete routine and quality inspections of electrical systems across the OPA, ensuring compliance to the relevant standards.
- Apply electrical responsibilities following industry standards including COMAH, DSEAR, EAWR & HASAWA.
- Complete all assigned tasks safely and to the required quality and timeframes (including investigation/troubleshooting, planned repair scopes, proactive and reactive maintenance).
- Knowledge of instrument maintenance system would be advantageous, though training on OPA instrument system will be provided.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified in a relevant Engineering Technician discipline, with a recognised technical qualification and completion of a Modern-Day Apprenticeship.
- Proven experience as an Electrical Control & Instrumentation Technician, capable of managing the quality of maintenance, service, and repair of plant.
- Experience in hazardous operations under COMAH regulations, a safe working record, compliance with systems and procedures, and ability to remain calm and effective in difficult/reactive situations.
- Accept responsibility for completion of jobs and, if required, supervise other operatives.
- Thorough working knowledge of the National Working Rules for the Electrical Industry, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Electricity Supply Regulations, and a desire to pursue additional training on instrument and control fronts.
- Medically fit to undergo Breathing Apparatus and Confined Space training and operations, with full colour vision.
- Professional qualifications: BS7671 (18th Edition), NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation work, and competence in inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations (e.g., City & Guilds 2391).
- Two years’ experience working as an electrician after satisfactory completion of training, leading to an electrical grade card.
- Electrical maintenance experience, particularly with motors, switchgear, MCC control panels.
- Desirable: City & Guilds 2391-52 Electrical Inspection & Testing qualification and experience with CompEx EX01-EX04 in hazardous operations.
