About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and driven Distribution Operations Manager to lead our cross dock and transport operations at Crick, from which we provide a dedicated distribution service in accordance with Company procedures and legislative compliance. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take full ownership of day-to-day operations, ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of our dedicated distribution service. You’ll play a key role in developing high-performing teams, driving operational excellence, and consistently achieving (and exceeding) KPIs. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong operational presence, strategic thinking, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily cross-dock and transport operations to achieve all operational KPIs
- Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operation in line with company procedures and legislation
- Maintain a strong presence on the operational floor, supporting and guiding teams
- Plan and optimise warehouse layout for efficient flow of goods
- Drive effective communication across all teams (performance, safety, strategy, training)
- Manage labour resources and control costs in line with budget
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Lead, motivate, and develop teams to meet targets and deadlines
- Oversee employee relations including performance, absence, and disciplinary processes
- Ensure all SOPs are up to date, communicated, and followed
- Maintain high standards of health & safety, working towards zero incidents
- Act as key contact for escalated customer issues
- Liaise with third-party carriers and agencies to meet service requirements
- Monitor manpower, overtime, and operational performance
- Ensure compliance with O Licence regulations and tachograph legislation
- Manage accident reporting, investigations, and insurance processes
- Oversee tolls, congestion charges, and related compliance
- Lead investigations and chair disciplinary/grievance meetings where required
- Coordinate the movement of goods across operations
Security and Compliance
- Promote a strong culture of crime prevention and site security awareness
- Lead or support site security audits and assessments
- Manage incident reporting and audit records
- Act as the key contact for building and operational security matters
General
- Ensure the high level of Health, safety and welfare of all self and others through adherence to the Health and Safety statement and policy.
- Responsible for legislative compliance for all operational related Health & Safety issues, equipment management and tachograph management.
- Always adhere to all relevant standard operating procedures and safe systems of work.
- Keep work area and yard area clean and tidy and clean as you go.
- Work efficiently and effectively as part of a team.
- Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.
- To perform any reasonable request from the Managing Director.
- Offer solutions and challenge suggestions enabling continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a fast‑paced distribution or logistics management role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
- Demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, and ambition.
- Excellent organisational and analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Sound knowledge of UK geography and transport operations.
- Good understanding of vehicle capacities and transport planning.
- Experience of using a Transport Management System.
- Strong knowledge of tachograph legislation, driving hours and working time directives.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and customer service.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail and strong decision-making skills.
- Flexible, proactive, and adaptable approach.
- Able to pay strict attention to detail.
- Willing to challenge established practices.

Working Hours
Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:00 Must be flexible to cover across 24 hour operation. Varying shifts will be required during training period.
