Compensation: £48,658 - £54,970 / year

Overview

The Sensitive and Complex Casework Team is a specialist unit within the Fitness to Practise (FtP) directorate. Its purpose is to handle high‑risk, high‑profile, or legally complicated cases, providing specialised legal advice and direct investigative support to speed up decision‑making and ensure consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Assess allegations of impairment of fitness to practise in the most serious and complex cases.
  • Conduct initial assessment and advise on risk, evidence, and the need for an interim order.
  • Progress initial case handling on high‑profile, complex, multi‑registrant matters and, on occasion, carry out a full investigation.
  • Act as a point of contact for key stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Support the team’s lawyers and collaborate with other departments.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and adapting quickly to fast‑moving cases that require precision, sound judgement, and clear justification for decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including legal colleagues, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly, manage expectations, and build productive working relationships across the organisation.
  • Collaborative approach, working closely with specialist lawyers and operational teams to maintain a consistent, high‑quality approach to fitness to practise casework.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and an understanding of how to navigate sensitive or high‑profile matters with care.
  • Curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to learning, with a desire to contribute to a growing team that values continuous improvement and delivering high‑quality outcomes.

Salary Details

London: £49,473 - £54,970
Edinburgh: £48,658 - £54,064
