Description
The Case Preparation and Presentation (CPP) team is a multidisciplinary team responsible for preparing and presenting fitness to practise cases referred to the Fitness to Practise Committee, ensuring they are concluded fairly and efficiently. The team also plays a key role in preparing and presenting applications before the High Court. As the NMC’s largest legal team, CPP offers a collaborative and supportive environment where lawyers and paralegals work together to uphold professional standards and protect the public.
Your Role and Impact
As a Lawyer within the CPP team, you will primarily manage and deliver a busy caseload of High Court Interim Order extension applications. Working closely with the High Court Senior Lawyer, you will oversee the preparation, administration and filing of time‑sensitive High Court applications, ensuring work is completed accurately and within strict deadlines. You will help maintain a high‑performing and well‑trained High Court team, collaborate with colleagues across the organisation, and contribute to the seamless delivery of this critical area of regulatory work. Where capacity allows, you will also prepare and present fitness to practise cases across the wider CPP team.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Qualified legal professional holding a UK practising certificate.
- Experience of High Court proceedings and a strong understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Proven ability to provide accurate legal advice, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions independently.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working under pressure and delivering high‑quality work to tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, professionalism, integrity and a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience in regulatory law, particularly within healthcare regulation, and litigation rights is desirable but not essential.
Salary Details
London: £58,022 - £64,469
Edinburgh: £48,658 - £54,064
Please note that this role requires you to review and work with sensitive and distressing material relating to fitness to practice cases and you will be given the appropriate support to deal with this material.
