The Nunhead Gardener is a fast-growing, family-run group of unique garden shops operating across South East and Central London. Independently owned, we take pride in our team of friendly and knowledgeable horticulturalists and florists who live and breathe plants and flowers. We’re committed to the communities where our stores operate, always serving as hubs of activity, partnering with local neighbours, and supporting community initiatives.

This is a standout opportunity for an experienced Visual Merchandiser who is passionate about delivering outstanding displays and layouts. This full-time role as part of a visual merchandising team is based across our three southeast London locations and our Mayfair store. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will ensure the brand DNA is rolled out consistently whilst understanding that the customer is at the heart of everything we do.

Job Purpose: The Visual Merchandiser is responsible for designing and creating attractive visual displays throughout the store with a view to maximising sales. You will promote The Nunhead Gardener brand, products, and services throughout the store.

Responsibilities:

  • Create appealing and eye-catching visual displays that lead the customer through the entire store.
  • Change displays to promote new product arrivals and reflect festive or seasonal themes.
  • Enhance the sales potential of our stores by bringing new ideas through all aspects of visual merchandising.
  • Effectively plan any range moves within the store.
  • Feedback to the buying team about best sellers and poor-performing product lines.
  • Research lifestyle, demographics, and design trends.
  • Leading by example to promote the highest standards of customer care and service at all times.
  • Work as a team player and enjoy helping your team-mates.
  • Possess a good knowledge of plant names and care requirements.
  • Foster close working relationships with directors and managers.
  • Maintain strong communication with the warehouse team to ensure fast and efficient replenishment of stock.
  • Actively seeking new and improved ways of working simply and cost-efficiently.
  • Analyse consumer behaviour and adjust product positioning.
  • Ensure that the retail team are trained in the store merchandising standards.
  • Identify slow-selling and damaged items and take action to clear these within the store asap.
  • Manage your time through effective planning, organisation, and communication.
  • Work with the retail team to ensure that all stock is cared for responsibly.
  • Deputise for Store Management when they are not in the business.
  • Act as a key holder, opening/closing the shop when required.
  • Undertake Adhoc projects as required by the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, and Directors.

Experience, Skills and Traits Required:

  • Previous experience in creative Visual Merchandising in retail.
  • You will be highly creative, possessing an aesthetic that is in harmony with that of The Nunhead Gardener.
  • Happy to work on your own initiative, conceive ideas, and translate those into actions.
  • Open to receiving and giving feedback.
  • Creative thinker, able to interpret VM brand guidelines and adapt them.
  • Highly organised with an analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Confident, friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic.
  • Applicants must be physically fit and able to lift a wide range of Garden Centre products.
  • You will be passionate about delivering exceptional levels of customer service.
  • You will be obsessively organised, tidy, and have an eye for detail.
  • You will have a love of plants and all things related to gardening.

The opportunity to be involved in a forward-thinking, customer-focused, technology-driven, agile, fast-growing small business. Competitive salary in line with industry standards and dependent on experience. 28 days holiday allowance inclusive of bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time employees). Holiday entitlement increases by 1 day for each additional year of service up to a total of 33 days. In addition to your annual leave entitlement, after 1 year of continuous employment, you will be eligible to take your birthday off as a paid day on us. Company contributed pension. You will be entitled to a financial contribution to the cost of study relevant to your role. Health Assured Employee Assistance programme. Bike to Work Scheme. This is a full-time role of 40 hours a week. Working hours will include weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
