SE London - Assistant Garden Centre Manager - Flagship Store

The Role:

As Assistant Garden Centre Manager, you’ll support the Garden Centre Manager in the day-to-day running of our flagship store. From team motivation to stock control, you’ll help ensure our shop runs like a well-pruned machine—beautiful, efficient, and always welcoming.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that combines retail know-how, team spirit, and a genuine love of plants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the daily operations of both indoor and outdoor departments

• Uphold all aspects of The Nunhead Gardener brand: customer service, team presentation, visual merchandising, ambience, product range, and in-store messaging.

• Help lead and motivate the store team: sales advisors, merchandisers, plant care, and delivery staff

• Assist with recruitment, training, team scheduling, and reviews

• Take responsibility for stock control, delivery processing, and managing waste

• Maintain healthy, well-presented plant stock

• Assist with merchandising, seasonal refreshes, and upholding brand standards

• Help resolve customer issues with care and professionalism

• Ensure health & safety procedures are followed

• Coordinate accurate admin and reporting processes, including team timesheets, checklists, leave, and internal communications.

• Implement new initiatives from Directors with efficiency and clarity

• Step in for the Garden Centre Manager as required

What We’re Looking For:

• Retail or garden centre experience in a management, supervisory or team leader role

• Strong people skills and a collaborative approach to management

• Good plant knowledge or keen interest in learning

• Confident multitasker with strong organisational skills

• Commercial awareness and problem-solving initiative

• Comfortable learning, using and training others in systems and software

• Physically fit and comfortable with regular lifting and movement

• Familiarity with pests, diseases, and plant care routines

• Experience in multi-category retail (garden/lifestyle/home)
