Lead and energise our Mortgage Underwriting teams to deliver an outstanding experience for customers and brokers. You’ll bring our operational strategy to life - driving performance, exceeding SLAs, and creating a high‑impact, right‑first‑time culture. What you will do
- Lead mortgage underwriting teams to deliver excellent service and meet SLA targets.
- Scale underwriting operations to support growing lending volumes.
- Build capability to support new mortgage products and process improvements.
- Ensure accurate MI reporting and maintain full regulatory compliance (including MCOB).
- Provide insight for third‑party panel management (solicitors, surveyors, brokers).
- Maintain strong oversight to ensure high‑quality lending decisions and adherence to policy.
- Support key projects and operational change across the mortgage function.
- Build strong internal/external relationships and drive a customer‑focused culture.
- Lead, coach, and performance‑manage the team.
- Partner with Risk & Compliance to ensure robust first‑line mortgage risk controls.
About you
- Strong financial services knowledge, including MCOB, Data Protection Act, Conduct & Operational Risk, and TCF principles.
- In‑depth understanding of land law, conveyancing, property processes, and Housing Act legislation.
- Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams, switching focus effectively to drive performance.
- Skilled in setting departmental vision and building the resources and processes to deliver it.
- Track record of achieving targeted performance and strong people leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop managers.
- Experienced in driving cultural change and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interrogate and interpret business data.
- Experience in project work, owning delivery across workstreams and tasks.
- Skilled in managing third‑party relationships.
