About The Role

We’re hiring a Compliance Advisory Manager at Nottingham Building Society. This is a second line advisory role for someone who enjoys exercising judgement, interpreting regulatory requirements proportionately, and helping the business make confident, well-governed decisions.   • Compliance Advice: Deliver clear, accurate guidance to first line teams, with a focus on FCA Handbook requirements.

  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Help identify regulatory risks and recommend suitable controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Policy & Procedure Support: Support the development, review and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures aligned to current regulatory expectations.
  • Regulatory Risk Events: Provide second line advice and guidance on regulatory risk events, supporting appropriate assessment and escalation of complex or material issues.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the enhancement and streamlining of compliance processes, including identifying opportunities for automation.
  • Training & Guidance: Support compliance training initiatives and act as a trusted point of contact for regulatory queries.
  • Change Project Input: Provide compliance insight into change initiatives, ensuring regulatory risks are considered in first line-led projects.

About you:

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial services regulatory requirements relevant to a building society, particularly the FCA Handbook, and ability to interpret and apply rules across products and operations.
  • Operational Application: Proficient in translating regulations into practical guidance aligned with business processes and service delivery.
  • Organisation & Drive: Highly organised, self‑motivated, and consistent in delivering high‑quality compliance advisory support.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Skilled at engaging and collaborating with stakeholders across business units and support functions.
  • Compliance Mindset: Demonstrates a genuine interest in compliance as a driver of business integrity, resilience, and good customer outcomes.
  • Communication Excellence: Able to convey complex regulatory requirements in clear, accessible language and provide confident, constructive challenge.
  • Judgement & Escalation: Confidence in exercising independent compliance judgement within a second line function and knowing when to escalate appropriately.
