We are looking for an experienced technical joinery professional to take ownership of design, drawing and technical surveying.
This is a broad and influential role covering technical surveying, design development and the production of accurate drawings for both exterior and interior joinery projects.
You will take projects from initial technical input and site survey through to approved, manufacture-ready drawings.
You will work closely with Estimators, Contracts Managers, Production Managers and experienced workshop teams to ensure every design is practical, accurate and suitable for manufacture and installation.
A key part of the role will be helping us move from historic drawing methods to a professional CAD-based design process.
You will have the opportunity to shape the software, standards, templates and controls used across the business.
This is not a purely creative interior design role or a narrow CAD operator position.
We are looking for someone who understands how bespoke joinery is surveyed, designed, manufactured and installed.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed post-order site surveys for bespoke joinery projects.
- Produce client approval drawings, technical details and manufacture-ready drawings.
- Design across both exterior and interior joinery, including windows, doors, screens, fitted furniture, counters, panelling and other bespoke products.
- Interpret architects’ drawings, specifications, surveys and customer requirements.
- Develop practical technical solutions that are suitable for manufacture and installation.
- Provide proportionate design and technical support during the quotation process.
- Produce preliminary layouts, sections or tender drawings for complex enquiries where required.
- Work with Estimators to identify technical risks, manufacturing complexity and missing information.
- Coordinate drawing comments, revisions and customer approvals.
- Ensure drawings clearly communicate dimensions, materials, profiles, sections, finishes, glazing and ironmongery requirements.
- Work directly with Production Managers and workshop teams to resolve technical issues before manufacture.
- Support Contracts Managers with design queries, technical submissions and variations.
- Establish drawing templates, standard details, component libraries and title blocks.
- Introduce effective file naming, revision control and drawing approval processes.
- Help select and implement appropriate CAD and design software.
- Build a library of reusable standard details across the business.
- Identify opportunities to simplify manufacture, reduce waste and improve consistency.
- Provide technical support during production and installation where required.
About You
- Experience producing technical drawings for bespoke joinery, architectural joinery, fitted furniture, timber windows and doors, or a closely related manufacturing environment.
- Strong professional CAD experience.
- The ability to produce both customer-facing approval drawings and detailed manufacturing information.
- A practical understanding of joinery construction, materials and manufacturing methods.
- Experience carrying out accurate site surveys.
- The ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
- A good understanding of design for manufacture and installation.
- Confidence working with Estimators, Contracts Managers, Production Managers and experienced tradespeople.
- Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to drawing control.
- The confidence to challenge incomplete surveys, unclear specifications and impractical designs.
- Experience introducing new drawing standards, templates, software or technical processes would be highly advantageous
