The Northern Lawn Tennis Club is a leading member-run racquets and fitness club located in the vibrant district of West Didsbury, Manchester. With 21 tennis courts, including 6 grass and 3 indoor courts, 2 covered padel courts, 6 squash courts, 2 modern gyms, and a welcoming bar and bistro, the Club offers exceptional facilities for sport, fitness and leisure. The Northern Lawn Tennis Club is seeking an enthusiastic, professional and highly organised Duty Manager to oversee evening operations and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Club. This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment and enjoys balancing operational responsibility with member engagement. The successful candidate will provide a visible management presence throughout the Club during peak evening hours, ensuring high standards of service, safety and professionalism across all departments.

Working Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 3:15pm – 11:15pm (40 hours per week). Please note: initial training will take place over a 1–2 month period with varying shifts, including daytime, evening and weekend hours, to support a full understanding of club operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations & Leadership: Act as the senior responsible person on site during evening operations; Oversee the smooth running of all club departments and facilities; Carry out opening and closing procedures; Conduct operational and facility checks throughout the Club; Ensure the Club is secure and operating safely at all times; Respond professionally to operational issues or emergencies.
  • Member Experience & Events: Maintain a visible, welcoming and professional presence throughout the Club; Support member engagement and community activity; Assist in delivering social events and racket sports activities; Support member enquiries and help maintain a positive club atmosphere; Promote an inclusive and high-quality member experience.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed; Support safe day-to-day operation of the Club; Report maintenance and safety concerns promptly; Assist with incident response and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Commercial & Team Support: Support bar and café operations during busy periods; Assist with evening events and functions; Work collaboratively across all departments; Support junior staff and maintain strong service standards; Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the Club.

About You:

Essential Skills & Attributes: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Strong customer service standards; Professional, approachable and confident manner; Ability to work independently and take responsibility; Highly organised with good time management; Calm under pressure and solutions-focused; Reliable, punctual and flexible.

Desirable Experience: Experience within hospitality, leisure, sport or private members clubs; Previous shift supervision or management experience; First Aid qualification; Interest in sport and community environments; Experience using booking or membership systems.
