Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time
- Entering payroll information, carrying out audit and validation checks, and interfacing with General Ledger and pension systems
- Processing statutory payments, including SSP and SMP, in line with current legislation
- Completing year‑end payroll activities and maintaining time and attendance system updates
- Overseeing the end‑to‑end payroll process, including pension auto enrolment administration
- Responding to payroll and pay‑related queries, providing excellent support and advice to clients
- Reviewing and peer‑checking payrolls while working closely with colleagues across the payroll team
- Keeping up to date with payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practice
Qualifications
- A minimum of one year's experience in a Payroll Administrator, Payroll Officer, or Payroll Clerk position, ideally within a fast‑paced bureau or accountancy environment
- Experience managing the full payroll cycle, including pensions, statutory payments, and employee benefits
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate work
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- A customer‑focused approach with confidence handling queries via telephone and email
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
- Good understanding of current payroll legislation and auto enrolment requirements
- Confidence carrying out manual payroll calculations where required
