The predicted salary is between 22700 - 29100 £ per year.
£27,000 - £29,000 per annum plus performance bonus and fantastic benefits. Average 40 hours per week across 5 days (07:30–16:30 April–September / 08:00–16:00 October–March). Rotational weekends required. A driving licence is required for this role.
Help grow something truly special – from seed to show-stopping displays. You’ll play a vital hands-on role within our Nursery team, supporting the production, care and presentation of plants used across our gardens and wider estate. With a strong focus on propagation and practical nursery growing, this role contributes directly to high-quality plant production, decorative displays and visitor-facing nursery areas. It’s an excellent opportunity to develop your horticultural skills in a professional, dynamic environment while helping deliver exceptional plant standards and memorable visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with seed sowing, pricking out, potting on, division and vegetative propagation.
- Support the care and maintenance of stock plants, young plants and propagation material.
- Maintain indoor and outdoor growing areas including polytunnels, glasshouses and stock beds.
- Carry out routine plant care such as watering, feeding, spacing, cleaning and labelling.
- Support monitoring of plant health and assist with pest, disease and weed control using IPM.
- Prepare and move plants for seasonal displays, planting schemes and estate-wide use.
- Help maintain decorative display beds and visitor-facing nursery areas.
- Work collaboratively with Nursery and Gardens teams while following health & safety procedures.

The Gardens Team (Gardens, Edibles, Nursery, Turf & Woodlands) are dedicated to understanding, developing, curating, protecting, and managing The Newt’s living collection of plants, in an environment where visitors are encouraged to experience and learn about plants, garden history, habitats and to enjoy the gardens. The team run several events and workshops for our visitors over the year which include the popular daily garden tours. The Nursery department is responsible for the production of plants for all areas across the estate most notably the Ornamental and Edible Gardens but also other areas as required. Holding a tunnel of tropical and sub-tropical house plants that are maintained to a high standard and a collection of succulents which are all used in indoor displays and events across the estate. The Nursery is also heavily involved in shows, events and special projects that the estate undertakes.
