Our Head of IT
As Head of IT, your first priority will be to fully understand the unique configuration, scope, and requirements of The Newt in Somerset. Following a comprehensive induction, you’ll be responsible for identifying gaps across infrastructure, cybersecurity, and systems governance. You\’ll then prioritise key programmes of work and design effective solutions — whether through outsourcing, recruitment, or internal reorganisation.
Technology is deeply embedded in every aspect of life at The Newt, and you’ll be central in communicating, influencing, and guiding technology use across the business. After initial maturity assessments and capability reviews, you will work closely with hardware and software-based teams to embed yourself in current and future projects — helping to streamline, scale, and optimise the use of tech across the estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify likely cyber attack vectors and lead the implementation of robust security improvements.
- Define governance frameworks to support departments in key IT decision-making, including vendor selection.
- Manage compliance across various systems (with support from The Newt’s DPO), ensuring safe, efficient, and legal use of data.
- Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery plans to ensure uninterrupted business operations under exceptional circumstances.
- Oversee effective onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring colleagues have the appropriate tech access.
- Manage the IT support function, including an IT Support Manager and two IT Support Assistants.

What we\’re looking for
- Demonstrated success in leading tech-focused change in a rapidly expanding business.
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior IT management role.
- Bachelor\’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Expertise in both hardware and software integration.
- Strong knowledge of database management, application security, and system integration.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage competing demands under pressure.
