As part of the ongoing evolution of the Estates Department, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced and dynamic Electrical Engineer to lead and develop a team of Specialist Engineers in maintaining complex infrastructure across the organization.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Be the senior managerial role for the strategic development of Estates engineering elements, focusing on electrical infrastructure, including capital projects and backlog maintenance for both short and long term.
  2. Lead a team of specialist Estates engineering staff, contractors, and consultants in delivering operational maintenance across the estate.

Your principal objective will be to manage and develop a team of Engineers and Trade Staff in the safe operation and maintenance of the electrical infrastructure across one of the largest hospital sites in the country to support patient care.

You will need exceptional organizational skills to coordinate, manage, motivate, and lead resources, including in-house labor and contractors. The role involves workload planning, liaising with technical, professional, and clinical teams, and managing budgets and procurement processes.

A detailed understanding of best practices such as CIBSE guides, British Standards, and Building Regulations is required. Engagement with external bodies like building control and city planners may also be necessary.

Applicants should be educated to degree level or have equivalent engineering experience, with relevant experience working with large-scale, complex building services infrastructure.

Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts daily across various sites, including Freeman Hospital, RVI, and others, delivering high standards of healthcare and innovation.

Post responsibilities include:

  • Formulating and implementing safe operation and maintenance of all Estates elements.
  • Providing senior managerial leadership for strategic development, including capital/backlog projects.
  • Working within financial procedures and attending meetings.
  • Participating in the out-of-hours emergency service.
  • Managing engineering staff, contractors, and consultants.
  • Ensuring 24-hour site service coverage.
  • Deputizing for the Estates Manager Operations as required.
