An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the busy dynamic photographic division of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust. The Medical Photography Department which is based in the Royal Victoria Infirmary provides a wide range of photographic services for the Trust / Outreach Clinics / Newcastle Hospitals at Cramlington, including evening and weekend working. To work effectively in a team of 23 with supervision and training to provide an efficient, reliable and high quality imaging service. We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, conscientious and motivated individual who is able to demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team.
You must have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. Comprehension of photographic principles and application of theoretical and practical knowledge/skills alongside a clear working knowledge of Photoshop.
You will be based primarily within Clinical Photography but will also undertake Ophthalmic Photography, to efficiently provide a range of imaging services including retinal photography, anterior segment photography and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
You must have a HND in photography or equivalent is essential.
We would like to see a varied portfolio of photography work with evidence using Adobe Photoshop.
Responsibilities
- To support in providing a professional cost effective, efficient clinical and non-clinical photographic service using digital technologies to service the Trusts three sites.
- To provide image management services.
- To provide a quality photographic service tailored to the needs of the department.
- To perform administrative and clerical tasks as necessary for the efficiency of the service.
- Accountable to department head.
- Maintain safety and well-being of patients while providing a professional service.
Qualifications and requirements
- HND in photography or equivalent (essential).
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comprehension of photographic principles and application of theoretical and practical knowledge/skills, with working knowledge of Photoshop.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team; capable of working within a flexible approach to meeting service needs.
- Willingness to undertake Ophthalmic Photography (retinal photography, anterior segment photography, OCT) as part of imaging services.
- A varied portfolio of photography work with evidence of Photoshop use.
Role details
- 24 hours per week.
- Interview date: 20 October 2025.
- Based primarily at Clinical Photography; may be required to work at other sites.

Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare across affiliated sites including Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Health Innovation Neighbourhood, Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Northern Genetics Service, and Cramlington Manor Walks. We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
