Job summary
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, friendly and patient-focused Pharmacy Technician to join The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Integrated Care Clinical Pharmacy team based at Marie Curie Hospice Newcastle.
Within this rewarding role, you will work alongside a dispensing assistant and pharmacist, as well as being part of a larger multidisciplinary team (e.g. nurses, prescribers and administrators). You will play a vital part in supporting the pharmacy team to deliver an excellent service and ensuring our hospice inpatients have the medication that they need during their stay. The role will be varied, covering multiple aspects of the medicines management process.

Main duties of the job
The pharmacy technician will support the role of the pharmacist and dispensing assistant to deliver a clinical pharmacy service for Marie Curie Hospice.The main duties of this role will include:
- Working collaboratively with the inpatient multidisciplinary team.
- Undertaking accurate medication histories.
- Counselling patients and/or their carer(s) on medication use.
- Problem-solving medication-related issues and queries.
- Procuring medication direct from pharmaceutical wholesalers.
- Transcribing FP10 prescriptions using the electronic prescribing system, to support the ordering of medication for use during a patient\’s hospice admission and for discharge.
- Supporting all aspects of medicines management within the hospice.
- Liaising with internal and external healthcare professionals.
- Involvement in service developments to improve patient care and/or efficiency.
Key requirements:
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and team working skills. They will be self-motivated and eager to use their skills to deliver the highest standard of care for patients admitted to the hospice.
