The East Anglian Touring Consortium is looking to meet actor-musicians from or with a strong connection to Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, the London Borough of Havering, or Cambridgeshire.

This actor-musician production will be the first project from the East Anglian Touring Consortium, a group of diverse organisations in the East Anglian region seeking to support new mid-scale work.

Consortium members are: Eastern Angles Theatre Company, HighTide, Landmark Theatres Peterborough, Mercury Theatre Colchester, New Wolsey Theatre, Norwich Theatre, Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, and Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.

We are seeking actor-musicians for an exciting new musical set in the 1960s, a time of social upheaval and cultural revolution.

At its heart is the story of two ordinary young people from Clacton whose lives are transformed as they become caught up in a youth-led rebellion that forever changed the way music was consumed.

The piece charts the rise of a group of bold, unconventional mavericks as they challenge the establishment and spark a movement that reshaped a generation. With roles spanning across young people, parents, workers, and key political figures, the production offers opportunities for performers of a wide range of ages and experiences.

We are looking for performers who can play at least two of the following instruments to a highly skilled level: Drums, Keys, Saxophones, Guitars, Bass, Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet.

We may consider applicants who are only highly skilled at one instrument.

Audition Dates:

Wednesday 15 October: New Wolsey Theatre – 10am to 1pm

Wednesday 15 October: Norwich Theatre – 4pm to 8pm

Thursday 16 October: Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch – 11am to 2pm

We plan to see everyone interested. However, we will only be inviting performers who demonstrate both the required musical skillset and a tangible connection to the region to audition.

At the audition you will meet:

  • Douglas Rintoul (Artistic Director & CEO of New Wolsey Theatre / Caroline Director)
  • Alex Thorpe (Co-Creative Director of Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch / Caroline Co-Director)
  • Paul Schofield (Musical Director)

Your audition slot will last around 20 minutes.

Those selected will be asked to prepare a short section from the script (to be provided), as well as a 1960s pop/rock song, performed with accompaniment on their primary instrument and sung.

To Apply:

Applicants should use the button at the top of this page to email the below information to Sam Bates, New Wolsey Theatre Administrator:

  • A Short statement – 300-500 words/video (1-2 mins) on why you are interested in the project and outlining their connection to the region
  • A CV or Spotlight Link
  • Their preferred audition location from those listed above

You will also need to complete our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Form ( also available through the button at the top of this page).

A member of the respective venue team will be in touch to confirm your audition slot, if successful.
