John Wesley’s New Room is looking for a welcoming and reliable Part‑Time Duty Manager to help oversee the smooth running of our historic site in the heart of Bristol. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a varied, visitor‑facing environment and who is confident taking responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of a busy heritage site.

As Duty Manager, you will act as the senior member of staff on duty during your shift, supporting volunteers, welcoming visitors and ensuring the building runs safely and efficiently. We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, good judgement and a welcoming approach to working with visitors and volunteers.

John Wesley’s New Room is the oldest Methodist building in the world and welcomes visitors from across the UK and internationally. Alongside the chapel, museum and café, we host a range of events, tours and room hire activities throughout the year.

Key responsibilities:

  • Opening and closing the building
  • Supporting and coordinating volunteers
  • Welcoming visitors and responding to enquiries
  • Acting as the main contact for room hire groups and events
  • Ensuring the site operates safely and smoothly during opening hours

Contracted Hours: The role is contracted at 14 hours per month, typically working two Saturdays per month (9:45am – 4:15pm), with opportunities for additional shifts in the evenings and on Sundays.

Location: Based on‑site (BS1 3JE).

Contract Type: Permanent

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Salary: £13.45 per hour – 14 hours per month
