The Nest Club is a specialist psychotherapy and counselling practice supporting individuals and couples through fertility, pregnancy, postnatal adjustment, parenting, and relationship transitions. We are building a trusted, high-quality network of clinicians and are seeking an experienced Clinical & Safeguarding Lead to provide ad hoc consultation, safeguarding oversight, and clinical governance support as the service grows. This is a flexible, associate consultant role — engaged as needed rather than on a fixed retainer.

Purpose of the Role

  • Clinical risk consultation for complex or high-risk presentations
  • Safeguarding leadership and escalation guidance
  • Oversight of clinical standards, policies, and governance frameworks
  • Support to associate therapists in navigating ethical and risk-related decisions

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk & Clinical Consultation (Ad hoc)
    • Provide timely consultation to associate therapists where risk arises (e.g., suicidality, self-harm, severe mental health deterioration)
    • Support decision‑making around referral, signposting, and crisis escalation
    • Offer guidance on boundaries, duty of care, and documentation
  • Safeguarding Oversight
    • Act as safeguarding lead for child and adult safeguarding concerns
    • Advise on domestic abuse, coercive control, and perinatal risk escalation
    • Support the service in liaising with local safeguarding procedures where required
  • Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance
    • Review and advise on core clinical policies (safeguarding, risk, confidentiality, complaints)
    • Support the development of clear escalation protocols and practice standards
    • Provide periodic input on clinician onboarding and governance processes
  • Professional & Ethical Leadership
    • Ensure practice alignment with BACP/UKCP/HCPC ethical frameworks
    • Promote a culture of reflective, safe, trauma‑informed clinical care

Engagement Model

This is an ad hoc consultancy arrangement, with work offered on an as‑needed basis. Typical requests may include one‑off risk consultations and occasional clinical governance check‑ins. Availability expectations and response times will be agreed in advance (e.g., same‑day support for urgent safeguarding concerns).

Person Specification

  • Accredited and experienced psychotherapist/counsellor (BACP, UKCP, HCPC or equivalent)
  • Significant post‑qualification experience (typically 8+ years)
  • Strong background in safeguarding and clinical risk management
  • Experience supporting other clinicians (supervision, leadership, governance)
  • Confidence working with complex relational, perinatal, or trauma presentations
  • Clear understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities in UK practice
  • Experience in perinatal mental health, fertility counselling, parenting, or couples therapy
  • Previous clinical lead, safeguarding lead, or service leadership role
  • Familiarity with building governance in small or growing services

Rates & Terms

Paid per consultation or session (hourly/day rate to be agreed). Professional indemnity insurance required. Enhanced DBS desirable.
