Engineering is the department that keeps everything working perfectly at The Ned. This isn’t always easy, as our building was designed as a bank, and it isn’t your traditional hotel. We’re responsible for making The Ned an unbeatable experience for our members, guests, customers, and team members and ensuring that attention to detail is second to none.
About the Ned: The Ned and Ned's Club are a global collection of hotels, clubs, spas, and restaurants for like-minded individuals to meet, work and have a good time. The Ned launched in 2017 in the heart of the City, in the former Midland Bank headquarters. The Ned City of London houses Ned's Club - a private members' space, gym and rooftop - alongside a public spa, a whole floor of event spaces, ten restaurants and bars and 250 hotel bedrooms.
As part of our Engineering department, you will:
- Service, repair and maintain all our commercial catering equipment
- Be responsible for fault finding and troubleshooting of electric and gas commercial catering equipment
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations
- Provide general engineering support to the whole operation - including basic plumbing, electrical repair, and gas equipment
- Help the business to achieve sales targets by regularly carrying out preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns, and disruptions, keeping The Ned running smoothly and looking in top shape
There are 750 team working in The Ned, and the engineering department supports and works alongside all of them, so a can-do attitude and great people skills helps us to maintain a great place to work. The engineering team provide coverage across the whole operation, so flexibility in working patterns will be required.
What are the shift patterns? You will work on a basis of 4-on, 3-off and 3-on, 4-off, each shift being 12 hours.

What you can bring to the role:
- Ideally, you are a holder of City and Guilds Level 3 2365, ideally 18th edition (or equivalent)
- You will have background knowledge with similar equipment from your previous roles
- You will have basic plumbing and carpentry skills and knowledge
- This is a high-pressure role, so an ability to stay calm and inspire confidence in others is needed, paired with the ability to pivot, problem solve, and re-plan when things inevitably change on occasion
