About The Role
As a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) you’ll play a hands-on role providing 2nd line support for SQL Server environments (2008–2022) in a fast-paced MSP setting. You’ll investigate and resolve issues, optimise performance, and support critical systems – all while continuing to develop your skills in cloud platforms, automation, and monitoring technologies.
You will need to be eligible for SC Clearance – 5 years within the UK and pass fraud/criminal background checks.
You Will
- Support and manage SQL Server databases throughout the full lifecycle.
- Configure, maintain, and monitor SQL Servers to ensure performance, availability, and security
- Troubleshoot performance and reliability issues; manage backups, restores, and recovery models.
- Help improve internal processes through automation and documentation.
- Participate in an out-of-hours support rota (with additional compensation).
- Collaborate with highly skilled DBA colleagues to expand your knowledge and skill set.
What will you bring?
Essential Experience
- Strong experience in SQL Server Administration (on-premises, versions 2008–2022).
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support databases in a managed service environment.
- Solid understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, views, indexes, and performance tuning.
- Experience with monitoring tools, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- A collaborative mindset with strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks/projects and contribute to out-of-hours support when needed.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with ITIL-based service desk processes (incident/problem management).
- Exposure to Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, SQL IaaS).
- Scripting with PowerShell and experience using GitHub.
- Use of Power BI for reporting.
- Any knowledge of other database platforms such as Oracle, Couchbase, or MySQL is a plus.
