About The Role

As a Database Engineer, you’ll play a hands-on role providing 2nd line support for SQL Server environments (2008–2022) in a fast-paced MSP setting. You’ll investigate and resolve issues, optimise performance, and support critical systems – all while continuing to develop your skills in cloud platforms, automation, and monitoring technologies.

You Will

  • Support and manage SQL Server databases throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor SQL Servers to ensure performance, availability, and security
  • Troubleshoot performance and reliability issues; manage backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Help improve internal processes through automation and documentation.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours support rota (with additional compensation).
  • Collaborate with highly skilled DBA colleagues to expand your knowledge and skill set.

What will you bring?

Essential Experience

  • Strong experience in SQL Server Administration (on-premises, versions 2008–2022).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support databases in a managed service environment.
  • Solid understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, views, indexes, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with monitoring tools, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • A collaborative mindset with strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks/projects and contribute to out-of-hours support when needed.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with ITIL-based service desk processes (incident/problem management).
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, SQL IaaS).
  • Scripting with PowerShell and experience using GitHub.
  • Use of Power BI for reporting.
  • Any knowledge of other database platforms such as Oracle, Couchbase, or MySQL is a plus.
