The Aquaculture Scientist provides technical and scientific support and leadership for The Nature Conservancy’s Global Aquaculture Program. The role assesses marine and freshwater aquaculture systems, develops reports, publications, and decision‑support tools, and collaborates with industry, government, and partners to advance low‑impact, regenerative aquaculture practices.
Responsibilities & Scope
- Collate and process data to assess environmental impact and suitability of aquaculture systems.
- Use ArcGIS, Python, R Studio, or other software to organize, analyze, and communicate data and develop decision‑support tools.
- Develop conceptual and methodological approaches to improve data workflows and analyses.
- Prepare technical reports, peer‑review publications, and funding proposals or grant applications.
- Administer science projects in collaboration with other programs and external stakeholders.
- Communicate results in forums, workshops, and conferences.
- Manage grants, contracts, or requests for proposals.
- Travel internationally and to remote locations as required.
Key Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a science‑related field and at least 2 years of experience or equivalent.
- Knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and/or aquaculture production systems and species.
- Experience leading and working with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience synthesizing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information.
- Experience preparing reports of findings.
- Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Information
Location: the position can be based in any country where TNC has an established entity. For U.S. applicants in Arlington, VA, the starting salary range is $90,300 – $103,785 per year, based on location, qualifications, and experience. All other applicants will receive a local currency salary range based on the local labor market.
