Roots and Reflections project
We are seeking a Technical Practitioner/Facilitator to support the delivery of a new heritage project that will give senior residents across Gloucestershire the opportunity to record and share their personal stories of social and local histories.
This is a paid freelance opportunity, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund (thank you, National Lottery players) delivered in partnership with The Roses Theatre and Gloucestershire Archive.
About The Project
This intergenerational initiative will run across six locations in the county, utilising recording equipment in library LABs and taking mobile equipment to the respective community settings to increase accessibility. The role of facilitator will support participants in capturing their community\’s stories, guiding both content and use of digital recording tools. They will also help with the transcription and archiving of the stories to be held at Gloucestershire Archives, and work with The Roses Theatre, who will lead the creative youth reinterpretation of the recollections through performance and visual art.
About The Role
The role involves around 10 days\’ work at each location (or equivalent) at £250.00 per day over a 6-month period commencing on 1.9.2025, including outreach in the respective local areas:
- Tewkesbury
- Cheltenham
- Gloucester
- Stroud
- Coleford
- Chipping Campden
We Are Looking For Someone Who Has
- Experience and proven track record of good interpersonal and customer engagement
- Experience working with older adults, including individuals living with memory loss or dementia
- Experience of digital systems and recording equipment, storage and licences
- Experience of maintaining productive relationships including colleagues, partners and community outreach
- Previous experience of oral history collection and transcribing is preferred but not essential as training can be provided
- Ability to travel across the County as required.
