Position: Reclosure Officer

Location: Kew site; at least 60% onsite work is required

Responsibilities
- Research and review files flagged for reclosure, making recommendations for their access status.
- Collaborate with the FOI Centre and the Reclosure Panel to maintain consistency in reclosure and compliance.
- Advise across the organisation on reclosure and compliance risks and address concerns.
- Report progress and recommendations to the Reclosure Panel as needed.
- Develop expert knowledge of the FOI Act and related information rights legislation.
- Work to tight statutory deadlines to research, and produce reports on closed records held by the National Archives in response to FOI requests.
Qualifications
- Degree in history or related subject, or significant relevant experience demonstrating the ability to conduct research into records, analyse content and summarise findings clearly and concisely.
- High standard of written and verbal communication.
- Strong team‑working skills and flexibility to achieve targets.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions using sound judgment and to escalate issues appropriately.
- Commitment to providing a professional service to the public and other government departments.
- Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure, and prioritise demanding workloads.
- SC clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance required.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and related legislation.
- High IT literacy, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and SharePoint; experience with case management/tracking systems; project management experience.
