As the guardians of over 1000 years of iconic national documents The National Archives’ mission is to collect, secure and provide access to our collection which currently exceeds 17 million documents and expands each year.

The Document Services Department is at the heart of this mission, storing and providing access to our ever-growing collection to a wide range of stakeholders. We are looking for a Staff Reading Room Events Manager who will be a key contributor to The National Archives’ ambition to increase in-person connections with the collection at Kew. They will prepare all documents used for public events, exhibitions, filming, education sessions, and VIP visits within The National Archives.

The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude, the ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to form strong connections with a wide range of stakeholders within The National Archives.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. This role requires on site presence and is not suitable for home working.

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrable experience of liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities
  • Proven ability to plan effectively, prioritise tasks and deliver to deadlines with the ability to proactively manage own workload, as well as that of others
  • Strong analytical skills with experience of using routine data to make decisions in consultation with other managers
  • High level of attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy across sustained periods
  • Experience of responsibly handling sensitive information in line with established guidance
  • IT literacy, with experience of using MS Office (particularly Excel, Outlook and Teams) and the ability to learn new computer systems
