We have a fantastic opportunity for a Nursing Assistant to join our Myton at Home team. The Myton at Home service provides expert and compassionate care to patients in their own homes, at a crucial time in their lives. This role involves home visits within the Warwickshire area. You will be based at our Rugby Myton Support Hub, but you may also be required to work at our Warwick or Coventry Hospices on occasion.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience of caring for patients and families with life-limiting/life-threatening conditions
- Understanding of safeguarding
- Compassion
- Communication skills
- NVQ level 3 (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this (essential)
- UK driving licence
- The right to work in the UK (we cannot support with sponsorship)
If you’re offered the role, you will need an enhanced DBS check, including the children's and adult's barred list, because you will be working in regulated activity with patients and their families. We will arrange and cover the cost of this check.
Job responsibilities include:
- To support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing care to the patients and their family/caregivers, in their own home, providing evidence-based, individualised end of life care.
- To support the Primary Healthcare teams in the delivery of its services, in line with the District nurses care plan, whilst adhering to statutory regulations and Hospice policies.
- To work under the direct and indirect supervision of the Hospice at Home Lead, in the delivery of quality holistic nursing care for patients in their own homes.
- Respond to the specific needs of palliative care patients and their significant others, in line with agreed care plans.
- Recognise and report any changes in patients' condition and where appropriate provide care and support under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively to patients, their significant others and other professionals, referring questions and concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Assess and reassess patients' capabilities as needs change regarding assistance with the activities of daily living and emotional care.
- Ensure safe and responsible use of equipment, identifying and reporting any malfunction, and taking action to maintain safety as directed.
- Provide practical support to the family around safe delivery of personal care; assist with last offices and support other nursing staff with the care of the deceased where appropriate.
- Promote and maintain a safe environment, dignity, and privacy at all times.
- Meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of the patient and family; contribute to a team-based approach to care; manage time and resources effectively.
- Maintain standards and confidentiality in line with Caldicott Guidelines; be approachable, non-judgemental, trustworthy, and motivated to deliver high quality care.
- Be able to work autonomously or as part of a team; flexible and professional to meet service needs; create and maintain accurate contemporaneous patient records; comply with Myton Hospice policies.
- Comply with Health and Safety requirements; contribute to service development; be responsible for own continued development; manage clinical duties and resources; lone worker policy adherence; ensure transport is road-worthy as per policy.
Person Specification:
- Two years' experience of hospice, hospital or community nursing
- Experience of Multi-disciplinary Team working
- Experience working in a palliative care setting
- Experience of caring for patients and families with life limiting conditions / life threatening conditions
Skills and attributes:
- Motivated and enthusiastic
- Excellent personal and communication skills
- Creative, resourceful and imaginative
- Good role model
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
- Basic IT computer skills
Qualifications:
- Level 3 NVQ or equivalent (either achieved, working towards or willing to undertake)
