MSS Environment, part of the RSK Group, has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Manager to join the team based in Cardiff, UK. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technical Manager to provide technical leadership and compliance support for our asbestos operations. This key role is responsible for maintaining and improving technical standards, ensuring compliance with legislation and HSE guidance, supporting operational teams, and driving continuous improvement across health, safety, quality and compliance performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop technical procedures in line with current legislation, HSE guidance and licence requirements.
- Provide technical advice and support to site teams, supervisors, contract managers and senior management.
- Manage training and competency records, ensuring staff are appropriately skilled and competent.
- Review plans of work, method statements, risk assessments and technical documentation.
- Manage technical audit programmes and support competency assessments.
- Oversee personal monitoring, exposure monitoring, RPE and PPE compliance.
- Analyse audit and monitor data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Communicate legislative, regulatory and procedural updates to relevant teams.
- Attend industry meetings, forums and technical events, ensuring learning is shared across the business.
- Promote a positive safety culture and support continual improvement across operational activities.
About You
You will be a confident technical professional with strong leadership skills and a practical understanding of licensed asbestos operations. You will be able to communicate clearly, make effective decisions, support operational teams and ensure high standards of compliance are consistently maintained.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience within the asbestos industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of asbestos legislation and HSE guidance, including CAR 2012.
- Experience working within or supporting licensed asbestos removal operations.
- Experience managing audits, training, competency systems and compliance documentation.
- Strong understanding of RPE, PPE, personal monitoring and exposure control.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence, motivate and support teams.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Desirable Requirements
- BOHS asbestos qualifications, such as P402, P403, P404, P405 or equivalent.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Auditor training or experience.
- Experience delivering toolbox talks or technical training.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
