We’re looking for a highly motivated intern to join our small, dedicated marketing team over the summer months to work on a wide variety of marketing activities and campaigns. You’ll gain valuable experience, and additional training, in the promotion of a busy arts organisation with a focus on social media, content generation and community engagement including:

  • Assisting in creating, scheduling and publishing content across our key social media channels - Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Researching and contributing to creative ideas to promote our exciting programme of events over summer including Summer of Music, The Big Sing, Mowlem Unboxed, Musical Theatre Summer School, Jessica Fortescue, the Jazz Festival and more.
  • Reviewing website content, writing copy and working with content owners to update the site and other platforms where The Mowlem is listed
  • Analysing marketing analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns
  • Helping to write and design printed marketing materials
  • Organising selected community events, classes and other promotions

Job requirements

  • The successful applicant will understand the range of activities that contribute to successful arts marketing
  • Previous experience of creative content generation and management of social media would be an advantage, as would skills in design (using Canva or Photoshop), photography and film editing. However, we recognise the role is one where training would be offered to enhance the intern’s skillset
  • We’re also looking for strong organisational and writing skills, attention to detail, a focus on great customer service and an interest in theatre, cinema and music
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Positive attitude and proactive approach
  • Gain practical understanding and insight as a valued member of the team, working within a busy arts venue
  • Experience working on live events, planning and delivering content for print and digital
  • Mentorship from experienced staff at the Mowlem in marketing, press and administration
  • Understanding how the marketing department supports the day to day running of the venue
  • Use of a wide range of programs in a professional context such as Canva, Adobe, WordPress.

These roles are available from May/June – August 2026, for an anticipated 3 days a week, and would be based at The Mowlem in Swanage. The intern will report to the marketing or technical leads but also work closely with the executive director and other members of the Mowlem staff team. There is no salary for this role but expenses will be paid (such as for transport and lunch), to be agreed in advance of appointment. Flexible hours and some evening and weekend work will be required.
