A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER As Assistant Housekeeping Manager, you will support the Executive Housekeeper in leading a busy housekeeping operation within one of York's most iconic hotels. You will play a key role in ensuring exceptional cleanliness standards, supporting the team and delivering an outstanding guest experience.

  • Support the Executive Housekeeper in leading and supervising the housekeeping team, ensuring all bedrooms, public areas and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Assist in organising and coordinating daily cleaning schedules, allocating tasks based on occupancy levels and operational requirements.
  • Carry out regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas and facilities, ensuring quality standards are consistently achieved and any issues are addressed promptly.
  • Support the recruitment, training, coaching and development of housekeeping team members to ensure exceptional performance and service standards.
  • Monitor stock levels of cleaning products, linen and guest amenities, assisting with ordering and inventory management to prevent shortages.
  • Support the management of the laundry operation, ensuring quality standards are maintained and linen availability meets business needs.
  • Work closely with Front Office, Maintenance and other hotel departments to ensure rooms are available on time and guests receive a seamless experience.
  • Assist with responding to guest requests and resolving housekeeping-related concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote and maintain health, safety and COSHH compliance throughout the department, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.
  • Support the Executive Housekeeper with departmental administration, rota management, payroll processes and cost control initiatives.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Previous experience in a housekeeping supervisory or management role within a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop a diverse team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a passion for delivering exceptional cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to build positive working relationships across departments.
  • A sound understanding of health, safety, hygiene and COSHH requirements.
  • Good administrative and IT skills, with experience of rota planning and stock management being advantageous.
  • A proactive and hands-on approach, leading by example and supporting the team where needed.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, bank holidays and occasional evenings in line with business requirements.
  • A positive attitude and a genuine commitment to creating memorable experiences for our guests.
