An exciting opportunity to engage all our pupils in a leading strength and conditioning programme. Besides supporting the smooth running of the boarding and co-curricular aspects of the school, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the national and international reputation of the sports programme. The post-holder will also contribute to the coaching and development of rugby players across the programme, supporting both the technical and physical performance pathways.

General Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Support the aims and objectives of the Mill Hill Education Group (MHEG).
  • Comply with the Mill Hill School Foundation Health and Safety Policy.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils, and any class or group of pupils you support.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible, and maintain good order and discipline among pupils.
  • Lead a tutor group or serve as a pupil pastoral mentor.
  • Complete a 5-day NPLQ course.
  • Be present at key events, including Open Mornings, sports tournaments, and Foundation Day.

Boarding House Responsibilities and Contribution to the Mill Hill Schools Boarding Community:

  • Under the direction of the Housemaster/mistress (HMM), undertake one evening duty per week, one in four Friday evenings, and one in four weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Contribute to full boarding and house activities as required.
  • Be familiar with and implement policies and procedures in accordance with the Boarding Staff Handbook, the Boarding Handbook, and all other relevant policies and protocols.
  • Support the HMM in organising house social activities and boarding trips.
  • Be present, visible, and available to support the boarding community and to be a friendly, recognised presence to its members.
  • Undertake the boarding staff induction programme to prepare for this role.
  • Provide cover as required in boarding, as directed by the Assistant Head (Boarding).

Performance Team Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of our multidisciplinary Performance Team supporting our Sports Scholarship Programme.
  • Enhance performance by developing, implementing, and evaluating strength and conditioning programmes based on sound scientific principles, including periodisation, peaking, tapering, injury prevention, rehabilitation, load management, and athlete screening/assessment.
  • Foster a culture of health and wellbeing through our dual-stream approach: Fit for Life, Fit for Performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive database for strength and conditioning programming and testing.
  • Provide nutritional guidelines and advice to all students.
  • Assist with delivering early morning, lunchtime, and after-school strength and conditioning sessions, ensuring the safety of all pupils during physical activities.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with our current Sports Performance Team, which includes a Sports Therapist, a UKSCA Qualified Strength & Conditioning Coach, a Performance Nutritionist, and a Sport Psychologist.
  • Work with and support our impressive list of Heads of Sport in their efforts to develop a nationally recognised programme.

Additional Opportunities:

  • For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to expand this role to include sports marketing, developing and implementing an effective social media marketing plan to raise awareness of Mill Hill Sport.
  • Gain valuable experience through our Saracens Partnership, including direct exposure to rugby pathway S&C delivery alongside Saracens pathway strength and conditioning coaches.
  • Participate in industry recognised training and professional development opportunities.
  • Engage in the internal CPD programme run by the Heads of Sports and Performance Team.
  • Contribute to key school events, Open Days, and educational visits where required.
