THE ROLE

The Head of Design is a crucial role, leading and driving design across Midnight™. Based in London and reporting to our Group Partner of Design, you will lead a talented team of designers, set the standard for design excellence across the Group in Europe, and shape our visual language through a culture of exceptional craft. This is a rare opportunity for a design leader with genuine vision.

YOU WILL

  • Lead and inspire a team of full-time and freelance designers, setting a high creative bar while cultivating an environment where talent thrives, ideas are challenged, and craft is celebrated.
  • Work closely with the Group Partners to set, uphold and drive the design standard across the Group.
  • Drive projects from first principle to final delivery, ensuring every output reflects the Group's ambition: progressive, considered, and continually advancing.
  • Develop the department’s thinking, approach, and skillset.
  • Build design systems, processes, and workflows that bring consistency and efficiency to the function without compromising creative ambition.
  • Collaborate across disciplines — working closely with creative, strategy, and production teams to ensure design is embedded across the Group's output.
  • Feed into the shape the visual identity of our own brands; The Midnight Club, The Beginning, ZERO, and Off-Piste.
  • Stay ahead of the curve, bringing genuine awareness of design culture, emerging practice, and industry movements.
  • Manage and develop external relationships with freelancers, vendors, and agencies - scaling the team's capacity intelligently when the work demands it.

ABOUT YOU

  • 7+ years of experience in a design role, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management position.
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring designers, with a strong track record of building and leading high-performing design teams.
  • Excellent creative and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate company objectives into compelling design solutions.
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing design systems and optimising design processes.
  • Highly collaborative mindset, with exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and an understanding of current design trends and tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
